The international conference on “Ownership and Dissemination of Manuscript Works: Imam Bukhari and Hadith Manuscripts,” held at the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center, continued on October 16.
This part of the conference was devoted to examining the codicological features of manuscripts, the significance of ownership notes as scholarly documents, and the culture of book collecting. Discussions focused on new methods for studying ownership markers in manuscripts and how these can help trace the dissemination of knowledge and reconstruct social relations. The presented papers offered fascinating scholarly insights into the manuscript copies of Imam Bukhari’s works, including their geographic distribution, preservation history, and artistic features.
Additionally, discussions highlighted the role of manuscript culture in the development of Islamic scholarship and the intergenerational continuity of book collecting and preservation traditions. During the scholarly debates, it was particularly emphasized that manuscripts should be analyzed not only as historical sources but also as living witnesses to spiritual heritage.
In conclusion, the scientific ideas, research findings, and collaborative initiatives presented during the symposium were summarized. Participants received certificates from the organizers, and a visit to the historical and cultural landmarks of Samarkand was arranged.
The three-day international scholarly conference marked a new stage in the study of manuscript source culture. The outcomes of the symposium will play a crucial role in future efforts to conduct in-depth research on the intellectual legacy of Imam Bukhari and other great thinkers, as well as in the preservation and broader scholarly circulation of manuscript works for future generations.
