At the initiative of the Institute of Islamic Civilization under Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (the National University of Malaysia), the Fifth Online Seminar of Islamic Civilization Scholars was held.
The event aimed to thoroughly explore the significance of theology, hadith studies, Islamic jurisprudence, Sufism, economics, governance, history, philosophy, education, psychology, mathematics, astronomy, technology, and medicine in Islamic civilization. It was organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Malaysia, the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, the Imam Bukhari and Imam Maturidi International Scientific Research Centers, and the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies.
Since 2021, these traditional seminars of Islamic scholars have been held with the participation of relevant organizations from Uzbekistan and Malaysia, as well as representatives from the Research Center for Islamic History, Art, and Culture (IRCICA) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan, and the Religious Authority of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan.
This year’s seminar was dedicated to the theme:
“Threads of Wisdom: The Spiritual Heritage Connecting Knowledge and Culture in the Islamic World.”
During the event, Sh. Umarov, a researcher at the Imam Bukhari International Research Center, delivered a presentation on:
“The Role of ‘Tafsir Abd’ by Abd ibn Humayd al-Kashshi in the Development of Tafsir Science.”
In his lecture, the scholar emphasized that Tafsir Abd is among the earliest known Quranic commentaries written in the region of Mawarannahr (present-day Central Asia). He noted that this work served as a key reference for subsequent generations of exegetes. The unique scientific and methodological approaches applied in the work, along with its deep and comprehensive analyses, played a significant role in the formation of the Islamic tafsir (Quranic interpretation) school.
From this perspective, studying this intellectual heritage, integrating it with modern research methods, and conveying it to the younger generation is considered one of the crucial tasks of contemporary Islamic studies.
The presentation generated considerable interest among seminar participants.
At the conclusion of the event, participants agreed on the necessity of strengthening religious tolerance, advancing research on the scientific and intellectual heritage of Islam, and further expanding academic cooperation.
