A Scholarly View on the Naqshbandiyyah Doctrine at the Sufi Conference

As reported, staff members of the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center are participating as part of the Uzbekistan delegation in the international conference held in the city of Laghouat, Algeria, within the framework of the Sufi Culture Festival. The conference is titled “Sufi Samaa: Heritage of the Past, Melody of the Present and Future.”

At one of the conference sessions, the Center’s researcher Shukurillo Umarov delivered a presentation on “The Naqshbandiyyah Tariqa and Its Widespread Influence in the Islamic World.”

In Islamic teachings, special attention is paid to the outward and inward perfection of a person. The lecture focused on such a comprehensive school of spiritual education Sufism and one of its important branches, the Naqshbandiyyah tariqa.

The speaker discussed the history of the Naqshbandiyyah tariqa, its stages of development, its spread across Turkestan, India, Arab countries and even Europe, as well as the interest shown by sultans and kings, notably Amir Timur, his descendants and the Ottomans.

It was emphasized that “If knowledge leads a person to worship, Sufism leads the heart to God.” These words clearly express the place and significance of Sufism in the human soul. The tariqa is not merely a theoretical doctrine but in practice shapes virtues such as purity of heart, self-discipline, sincerity, humility, and charity.

The Center’s scholar also shared scientific reflections on the true spiritual essence of the tariqa and addressed criticisms directed at it, highlighting the importance of Sufism in modern society.

The presentation sparked great interest among attendees. The scholarly discussion of the topic contributed to a deeper study of the Sufi heritage and a more profound understanding of it in contemporary conditions.
