Islamic Heritage and Enlightenment: Uzbekistan’s Presentation in Algeria

Within the framework of the Uzbekistan delegation’s visit to Algeria, a presentation was held on the topic “Religious Enlightenment and Cultural Heritage: Uzbekistan’s Contribution to the Development of Islamic Civilization.” Leading scientific centers, manuscript and historical archives representatives, researchers, and local scholars from Algeria participated in the event.

Attendees were provided with detailed information about the recent reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at ensuring citizens’ freedom of conscience, strengthening religious tolerance and revealing the true humanitarian essence of Islam. In particular, it was emphasized that state-religion relations are based on a purely educational approach and priority is given to scientific rigor, transparency and international cooperation in religious education.

From this perspective, the activities of the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center were highlighted as one of the key results of reforms in the country. The Center’s main goals and objectives include deeply studying the scholarly heritage left by the great muhaddith Imam Bukhari and other representatives of the Islamic world, conveying this knowledge to the broad public, increasing the interest and respect for the religion among the younger generation based on scientific and educational grounds and strengthening international scientific relations.

During the presentation, a video was shown about the Center’s activities, scientific research, international cooperation directions and promising projects. This material aroused great interest among Algerian participants and helped them form a clear understanding of Uzbekistan’s significant contribution to preserving and promoting Islamic civilization.

It is noteworthy that the recently adopted Concept on Ensuring Citizens’ Freedom of Conscience and State Policy in the Religious Sphere of the Republic of Uzbekistan is widely recognized not only nationally but also internationally. According to this Concept, the state does not interfere in the activities of religious organizations but supports their lawful, educational, and scientific initiatives, including promoting their international cooperation.

Algerian scholars highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s attention to Islamic heritage, the state-religion relations and the modern, scientific approaches in religious education.

The event not only strengthened scientific and spiritual ties between the two countries but also provided an opportunity to widely promote Uzbekistan’s reforms on the international stage and once again demonstrate the country’s scientific and educational prestige to the global Muslim community.
