Imam Bukhari’s scientific legacy – through the eyes of local and foreign scholars

On April 15, the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center hosted an international scientific-practical conference on the topic “Imam Bukhari’s Contribution to the Development of Science.” The event was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center, Oriental University, Karabuk University, Ankara University of Social Sciences, and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). The conference brought together professors, researchers, scholars, religious figures, and students from prestigious universities and research institutions in Uzbekistan and Turkey.

At the official opening ceremony of the conference, Professor Shovosil Ziyodov, Director of the Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center, and Dr. Nozim Mamatahunov, Rector of Oriental University, warmly welcomed the participants and emphasized the great importance of the event in studying and promoting our scholarly heritage. Distinguished guests from Turkey — university rectors and representatives of local authorities — also highlighted the conference’s role in strengthening scientific cooperation between the two countries.

During the plenary session, various aspects of Imam Bukhari’s legacy were discussed. In particular, presentations were delivered on the scholar’s life journey, the social and ethical ideas found in his most renowned and rare work Sahih al-Bukhari, his contribution to the fields of source studies and tafsir, as well as his prominent position in the science of hadith transmission.

The ideas put forward, scholarly reflections, and discussions held during the breakout sessions provided participants with a deeper understanding of the contemporary scientific and ethical value of Imam Bukhari’s legacy.

In the afternoon, the breakout sessions continued, featuring in-depth presentations on hadith studies, source criticism, religious and jurisprudential teachings, as well as research on the commentary of Imam Bukhari’s works. Nearly 200 participants actively engaged in the lively discussions.

The conference was rich in content and highly productive. It once again affirmed that Imam Bukhari’s scholarly legacy continues to play a vital role in advancing knowledge and strengthening spiritual values in today’s world.
